Traditions

Founder’s Day

Join students, faculty, and staff as we celebrate the founding of our beloved alma mater. Northeastern was founded on October 3, 1898—while the school has been through many changes over the past 120+ years, the essence of the Northeastern education remains the same. Happy Birthday Northeastern University!

Legacy Pinning Ceremony

At Northeastern, we value legacy. We know that as a family member of a student, you’ve passed on extra husky spirit to your student—and we want to celebrate that special bond. We cordially invite parents and grandparents of current students for a special ceremony and reception to celebrate your family’s generational ties to Northeastern. The pinning ceremony signifies the “passing on” of Northeastern’s legacy of knowledge, experiential learning, and problem-solving that defines who we are.

Mayor of Huntington Avenue

The Mayor of Huntington Avenue, or MoHA, is a school tradition dating back to the mid-1950s, where the Northeastern Student Alumni Ambassadors, or SAA, organize voting for an undergraduate student to work alongside administration and other student groups to plan events and introduce new school resources.

Northeastern University Ring

Celebrate your academic achievements by ordering your official Northeastern University ring! Your ring symbolizes the rigor of your degree and the unique memories that will last a lifetime. Shop traditional rings or the unique Kendra Scott and Liz James collections. It’s your turn to be part of the tradition and take a piece of Northeastern with you on your journey.

Check out this brochure for more information about the ring, or visit the bookstore to see the entire ring collection.

Senior Year Experience

Soon you will be one of Northeastern’s newest alumni. Our team is committed to enhancing your Senior Year Experience, preparing you to join the alumni community, and advancing the university’s mission. As the end of your undergraduate career approaches, there will be many opportunities for you to celebrate your achievements, connect with alumni, give back, and gain valuable knowledge about life after graduation.

Compass Awards

Students who display strength in these values demonstrate to us that they are on a path to alumni leadership.
