Traditions

Founder’s Day

Join students, faculty, and staff as we celebrate the founding of our beloved alma mater. Northeastern was founded on October 3, 1898—while the school has been through many changes over the past 120+ years, the essence of the Northeastern education remains the same. Happy Birthday Northeastern University!

Legacy Pinning Ceremony

At Northeastern, we value legacy. We know that as a family member of a student, you’ve passed on extra husky spirit to your student—and we want to celebrate that special bond. We cordially invite parents and grandparents of current students for a special ceremony and reception to celebrate your family’s generational ties to Northeastern. The pinning ceremony signifies the “passing on” of Northeastern’s legacy of knowledge, experiential learning, and problem-solving that defines who we are.

Mayor of Huntington Avenue

The Mayor of Huntington Avenue, or MoHA, is a school tradition dating back to the mid-1950s, where the Northeastern Student Alumni Ambassadors, or SAA, organize voting for an undergraduate student to work alongside administration and other student groups to plan events and introduce new school resources.
